This institution is an initiative of ‘Netrajyothi Foundation’, a registered charitable trust established in 2000. Its motive is to offer ‘Vidyaadaana’, the greatest gift one can offer and to spread the science & art of paramedical sciences.  Optometry has been the first speciality that is chosen to meet the demand from ever growing scope in visual sciences. Optometry now is an inevitable part of primary to tertiary eye-care system.

 

NJHS has a tie up with several institutions and the students shall reap the benefits of the educational resources from them. The main associate is its sister organization, a premier eyecare institution, Karthik Netralaya, which is serving the society since 1980. Equipment and expertise available at Karthik Netralaya are available during the educational processes. Students will learn here and also understand that education is a continuous process and shall not stop at any phase of life!

 

 

Courses

1) B.Sc in Optometry:

Affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, recognised by Govt. of Karnataka.

Eligibility:

PUC (PCMB) Course duration: 4 years comprising of 3 academic years &  1 year of compulsory internship.

 

2) Diploma in Ophthalmic Technology (DOT):

Affiliated to Para Medical Board, Government of Karnataka.

Eligibility:

a.   PUC (PCMB)  -  Course duration: 2 years

b.   SSLC             -  Course duration: 3 years

 

 

Criteria for Selection of Candidates

1) B.Sc. in Optometry

a)  The candidate should have passed the 2 year PUC (PCMB) or any equivalent examination recognised by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences or the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

b)  Age at admission should be 17 years completed as on 31st December of the previous year.

 

2)  Diploma in Ophthalmic Technology (DOT)

a)  Minimum qualification for admission shall be a pass in PUC (Science) /SSLC with good aggregate marks.

b)  The candidate should have attained the minimum age of 15 years  as on 31st December  prior to the  year of admission. Upper age limit is 35 years.

 

Based on applicant’s merit the selected candidates will receive an interview call, after which the list of selected candidates for the courses will be announced.

 

 

Teaching Quality

Both the graduation & diploma programs give the students excellent opportunities to learn various aspects of Optometry according to the stipulated syllabus. Dedicated faculty, time tested teaching methods and practical training are available to them all through the course. Audio visuals media will be extensively used in the teaching processes.

 

Faculty members with rich experience will take care of the course requirements. Students will have good opportunity to participate in various academic programs of the institutions. Apart from dedicated faculty of the college, the faculty and consultants of Karthik Netralaya will be teaching the students.

According to WCO's concept Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous , educated and regulated (licensed  / registered ), and Optometrists are the primary health care practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye  and vision care , which include refraction and dispensing, detection / diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of visual system.
