Spectacle frames

Types of Spectacle frames:

Spectacle frame materials fall into 2 main categories; Metal (Titanium, Stainless steel, Monel, Alluminum etc.) and Plastic. We have a wide range of frames for your selection, brands that we carry include Mont Blac, Rayban, IDEE, Guess etc.

Plastic vs. Metal frames

Plastic and metal frames both have different looks and price points. Plastic frames can break more easily than metal ones.  Aging and exposure to sun also decreases the strength of plastic frames. Metal frames are more resistant to corrosion. Plastic frames often come in more varieties & colors.

General guidelines on frame selection:

  • Choose a frame in proportion to your face.
  • Choose a frame that contrasts with your face shape i.e. if your face is round consider frames that have square angles.
  • To lengthen your face: consider selecting mid to high temples, and frames with little or no colour on the bottom rim.
  • To shorten your face: consider mid to low temples, and narrower frames
  • To lengthen your nose: consider a high nose bridge that is clear or light coloured. Avoid solid colour bridges.
  • To shorten your nose: consider a low nose bridge in a solid colour. Avoid clear nose bridges
  • To lengthen a wider nose: Use a clear or metal nose bridge that sits close to the nose, use nose pads.
  • A small face: Use thin metals and lightweight frames.
  • A larger face: Consider balancing your features with a slightly oversize frame

Spectacle lenses

Single vision lenses

Set for one viewing distance only, which may be near, intermediate or distance.

Bifocal lenses

Bifocals are sectioned into two distinct parts, which give the user clear distance and

near (generally), with no transition or correction in between.

Varifocal lenses / Progressive lenses

These have three main zones for distance, intermediate and reading, so users can enjoy the convenience of not having to take their glasses on and off and can view all distances in one lens.

Multicoat lenses

We dispense multi-coated lenses of premium brands like Essilor, Zeiss etc., which incorporate a combination of coatings – anti-reflection, scratch-resistant, anti-fog, anti-glare, water repellent, dust repellent, ultraviolet protection etc., to improve the properties of your glasses.

High Index lenses

Ideal for strong prescriptions but without the bulk of the thickness, feature an anti-reflective coating and provide 99.9% UV protection.

Glass lenses

These are lenses made of glass. The image from glass lenses tend to be sharper in clarity than that of standard plastic lenses. Glass lenses have more safety concerns, especially when dropped.

Plastic lenses

Our standard lenses that can be given an anti-reflective coating to screen out the sun’s harmful rays.

Polycarbonate lenses

These are ten times more impact-resistant than standard plastic lenses. They are lighter and thinner than plastic lenses and provide good eye protection.

  Tips for spectacle care

  • Your spectacles need to be clean and scratch free. Handle the lenses and the frame with care.
  • Always rinse your glasses off with water before wiping or cleaning them. Even tiny particles of dust or dirt can settle on your lens, and if you wipe those around on a dry lens, it can be abrasive.
  • Use sprays or cleansers that are specifically made to clean eyeglass lenses.
  • Do not use paper towels, tissue, or napkins to dry your lenses. All these materials, regardless of how soft they are, have a textured surface and can easily scratch your lenses.
  • Hold your frames by gripping the piece that crosses the bridge of the nose. This will keep you from accidentally bending the frame while you clean.
  • Store your glasses when you're not wearing them. Don't lay your glasses lens down.
  • It is normal that you feel slightly uncomfortable in the first few days of wearing the new spectacles. You will alright in due course of time. But if your discomfort stays beyond 2 weeks, please do contact us.
  • Progressive lenses and astigmatism powers require little more time for adaptation.
  • If your spectacles are with anti-reflection coating, do not clean them with a detergent or water, as they affect the coating.
